Woman struck by semi as she crossed Seward Highway near Girdwood

A woman crossing the Seward Highway near Girdwood late Monday was injured when she was struck by a semitruck, police say.

Officers responding to a report around 11:50 p.m. found the woman lying on the side of the road near Mile 93 of the highway, Anchorage Police Department spokesman MJ Thim said. The truck driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers, he said.

A preliminary investigation found that the semi struck the woman in the southbound lane, Thim said in an email. She was taken to a hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening.

Police said overnight that officers were at the scene and that the highway was closed in both directions. The road was reopened by 3:30 a.m.
