Woman in crosswalk struck, killed by pickup near downtown Anchorage

A woman in a crosswalk was struck by a pickup and killed Friday morning on Fourth Avenue near downtown Anchorage, police said.

Officers were called to the scene about 7:45 a.m. The truck was eastbound on Fourth Avenue when it struck a woman who had almost finished crossing the road in a crosswalk, police said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not immediately release her name.

“Poor visibility is believed to be a factor” in the accident, a police alert said.

The man driving the truck remained at the scene as officers continued their investigation. He was not arrested, and his name wasn’t released.

Fourth Avenue was closed for several hours between Ingra and Latouche streets but reopened around 10:45 a.m.
