Shots fired, room burned at Anchorage motel

Anchorage police responding Thursday morning to reports of shots fired at the Black Angus Inn in the Fairview neighborhood found a fire in one of the rooms.

Police said in an alert the incident around 7:30 a.m. stemmed from a fight between two men who were relatives, one of whom was armed and “behaving erratically.”

The fire at the inn on Gambell Street at 15th Avenue was quickly extinguished by an Anchorage Fire Department crew.

Police didn’t specify the extent of damage from the blaze or the gunfire.

Jacob Baxter, 36, was arrested after the incident and charged with arson and assault, police said. There were no injuries.
