Two women were killed when a large SUV struck them as they were crossing A Street in Midtown early Saturday, Anchorage police said in an online statement.
Both women died at the scene.
Police said the driver of the dark-colored Ford Expedition, a woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers.
A Street was reopened near 32nd Avenue at about 7:45 a.m. after an hourslong investigation, police said.
Police did not immediately provide any further details about circumstances surrounding the accident. They said an investigation was continuing.
