New Year’s Eve fireworks will be a drive-in show this year in Anchorage

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to cancellation of many events this year, but Anchorage’s traditional New Year’s Eve fireworks are still on -- though with a twist.

The Anchorage Downtown Partnership is teaming with KONR 106.1 to stream music synced with the fireworks show, which will allow people to enjoy it from their vehicles. The fireworks will be launched from Ship Creek starting at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, allowing viewing from many EasyPark garages and parking lots in downtown, which are offering a special flat rate of $3.

Many downtown hotels are offering room specials with a view of the show, and restaurants are advertising takeout specials. 49th State Brewing and Williwaw Social have outdoor rooftop seating available for those who want to brave the cold for a good view.

For more information and a map of viewing locations, check out the Anchorage Downtown Partnership’s event page.
