Three residential units destroyed in Sunday afternoon fire in Northeast Anchorage

A Sunday afternoon fire damaged at least three units in an apartment complex on the northeast side of Anchorage, fire officials said.

The Anchorage Fire Department responded around 12 p.m. to a fire in a 12-plex apartment building near Norman Street and Debarr Road, or more specifically in the 6000-block of E. 12th Ave, said Assistant Fire Chief Alex Boyd.

No injuries were reported, but at least three residential units were severely damaged by the fire and are currently not livable, Boyd said.

The fire started in the unit on the ground floor and extended to two other units above, Boyd said. The fire department responded with 23 fire units, including a fire investigator.

“One person on scene is being questioned in relation to the fire,” Boyd said, “but the origin and cause of fire are still under investigation and will be for some time.”

As of 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Boyd said the fire was under control and the crews were working to clean up the site.

It was not immediately clear how many people were displaced by the fire.
