Burn victim found but no sign of fire

An Anchorage man has been found burned in a Midtown shed and police are trying to figure out how he got there.

"It's a very strange set of circumstances to find a person burned like that and not have any idea where it took place or what happened to them," said Lt. Dave Parker.

There was no sign of fire anywhere in or near the shed, police said.

Police found 51-year-old Carl Nashookpuk Monday afternoon in the shed in a mobile home park on the 900 block of Chugach Way, near Arctic Boulevard and 36th Avenue. He was severely burned and immediately taken to a local hospital, police said. He was not able to communicate with the police.

A neighbor had seen Nashookpuk wandering the neighborhood several hours before and went to check on him when he found him in the shed, Parker said.

Nashookpuk is known to sometimes be homeless, Parker said.
