Operation Tipsy Tow offers free rides and tows for impaired drivers

HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON WITH OPERATION TIPSY TOW

Between company Christmas parties, holiday gatherings and ringing in the New Year, December is filled with reasons to celebrate. While most adults engage in the festivities responsibly, some merrymakers overindulge in cheer. That's why AAA and Vulcan Towing and Recover are proud to offer Operation Tipsy Tow for the first time in Anchorage this year in partnership with Anchorage CHARR (Cabaret, Hotel, Restaurant and Retailers Association), the Odom Corporation and K&L Distributors.

"According to their 2011 Annual Report, the Division of Alaska State Troopers issued more than 1500 DUI offenses last year," says AAA Spokeswoman Kaelyn Kelly. "The holiday season can be a particularly dangerous time for motorists because more people are out celebrating, and some choose to drive impaired. AAA hopes Operation Tipsy Tow encourages people to make the responsible choice not to get behind the wheel after drinking."

Holiday revelers inside the Anchorage city limits can call Operation Tipsy Tow at (800) AAA-HELP (222-4357) for a free and confidential ride home and vehicle tow of up to ten miles. The program begins Friday, December 14 and runs through Tuesday, January 1.

"Operation Tipsy Tow is a great resource for holiday party planners to use to ensure their guests have a safe way to get home," says Kelly. "AAA and Vulcan Towing are so proud to be able to bring this service to Anchorage. If the program takes even one would-be impaired driver off the road this year, Operation Tipsy Tow will be a success."
