Troopers: ATM stolen out of Palmer restaurant

Troopers are asking the public for help in finding who stole an ATM from a Palmer-area restaurant last week, an Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman said Thursday

Troopers got a call on Saturday morning that someone had stolen the privately-owned ATM from RW's Hamburger House at Mile 2 on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway, said Beth Ipsen, troopers spokeswoman.

She said troopers suspect it would have taken more than one person to get the ATM out of the restaurant. It weighs about 200 pounds, she said.

The burglars forced their way into the back door of the building and dragged the ATM almost 25 feet outside, said James Tickney, restaurant employee.

He said there was $4,700 in the ATM when it was stolen.

There is no video surveillance of the incident, he said.

Anyone with information about the burglary or where the ATM is should call troopers at 907-745-2131 or Mat-Su Crime Stoppers at 907-745-3333.
