Troopers identify Wasilla man killed by gunshot near Talkeetna

Troopers identified a man shot and killed in the Montana Creek area of Talkeetna early Saturday as Andre Lafrance, 33, of Wasilla, in an online dispatch Sunday.

At 12:51 a.m. Saturday, Palmer police received a 911 call from a cellphone saying a person had been killed. That's all the caller said, according to troopers. Hours later, using information from a cellphone provider, troopers in Talkeetna located the scene of the incident, in the Montana Creek area.

"Preliminary investigation revealed two male subjects with apparent gunshot wounds inside the residence," the dispatch said.

Lafrance was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other man, who has not yet been identified, was flown to an Anchorage hospital where he is in critical condition.

"Attempts are underway to notify his next of kin," the dispatch said.
