Son charged with stabbing father during argument in South Anchorage

Police arrested a 20-year-old Anchorage man Monday morning after he allegedly stabbed his father twice — then rode a bicycle to another property, where officers found him asleep in a shed.

Eyob Imlach was taken into custody shortly after 3 a.m., according to a statement from police spokeswoman Renee Oistad.

Officers had originally responded to an address on the 2100 block of Tributary Circle, off South Brayton Drive near Huffman Road, after Imlach's father called at roughly 1 a.m. to report that the two were in a "physical altercation."

"Initially the man told the dispatcher he did not think his son would harm him," Oistad wrote. "Eight minutes later the man reported he had been stabbed by his son."

Oistad said Monday morning it appeared Imlach had been drinking alone prior to the fight with his father.

Medics took the older man to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening stab wounds to his leg and torso as police began to look for Imlach, who had left the scene on a bicycle.

About two hours later, dispatchers received a call from an acquaintance of Imlach's, who said he had shown up at his home on the 1800 block of Colony Place in Independence Park. The caller hadn't let Imlach into the residence, because "he thought Imlach was intoxicated."

"Police arrived and saw a bicycle lying outside the house," Oistad wrote. "The citizen stated the bicycle was not his and gave permission for police to search the property. Police found Imlach sleeping inside the shed in the yard."

Imlach was taken to the Anchorage Correctional Complex, where he was held without bail.
