APD: Denny's restaurant and customers robbed at gunpoint

An East Anchorage restaurant and several customers were robbed Monday morning by two suspects driving a vehicle stolen less than 12 hours before the robbery, Anchorage police reported.

Police spokeswoman Renee Oistad said in a statement that police responded to the robbery just before 8 a.m. at the Denny's restaurant on the corner of DeBarr Road and Bragaw Street.

Two male suspects, one of whom had a gun, entered the restaurant and demanded money, Oistad wrote.

"After ordering an employee to open the cash register and give them the money, they also robbed four customers of their money," Oistad wrote. "At some point during the robbery, the suspect with the gun fired a single shot inside the restaurant which hit an empty seat."

None of the roughly 15 to 20 diners and employees in the restaurant were injured.

Police said the suspects' getaway vehicle – a 1997 Honda Civic, which was taken overnight Sunday from a location on Boston Street in Muldoon – was found abandoned shortly before noon a few blocks west of the Denny's, on Nichols Street near East 15th Avenue.

Oistad said no imagery of the suspects was immediately available Monday afternoon.

Anyone with information on the robbery or suspects is asked to call police dispatchers at 907-786-8900, or contact Anchorage Crime Stoppers at 907-561-STOP or its website.
