Troopers say Fairbanks domestic disturbance call ended in fire with 2 dead

Alaska State Troopers in Fairbanks say a report of a domestic disturbance Wednesday ended in a residential fire and two people dead.

Troopers got a call about the disturbance at a multiunit residence on the Old Steese Highway around 7 a.m. Wednesday, according to an online dispatch.

When troopers arrived, they found a woman dead inside the residence and a man barricaded in a back room, according to the dispatch.

Troopers tried to contact the man and called out a tactical unit to assist, but the man set fire to the residence, according to the dispatch.

"The local fire departments responded to the scene and got the fire under control," the dispatch says. "Two bodies have been located and recovered from the residence."

The two dead were not identified by troopers. Their remains will be sent to the State Medical Examiner Office in Anchorage for positive identification and autopsies.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing, troopers said.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported that the building is located at 588 Old Steese Highway.
