1 hurt in shooting at South Anchorage party

Anchorage police were investigating a shooting early Tuesday during a party at a South Anchorage home that left one person wounded.

Dispatchers said officers were called shortly before 2:45 a.m. to the 1600 block of Tammy Avenue, off the Old Seward Highway south of Huffman Road. The extent of the victim's injuries wasn't immediately available.

APD Sgt. Darrell Evans, at the scene, said juveniles had gathered at the home for the party.

"Some subjects showed up at the house that weren't invited and a fight ensued … that ended in gunfire," Evans said.

No suspect was immediately taken into custody, as police spent the initial hours of the investigation locating and interviewing people who were at the party.

Evans said some of the partygoers were still in the home when police arrived. The occupants of one vehicle leaving the scene, a white sedan, were detained.

Officers blocked off the western end of Tammy early Tuesday, as well as Troy Street between Tammy and Helen Drive.

Police asked people to avoid the area during their investigation.
