Police: Man shot, wounded during South Anchorage confrontation

Two suspects in a Monday shooting are still at large after the victim told investigators a South Anchorage meth deal went sour and the sellers tried to rob him, police said.

Anchorage Police Department spokesperson Renee Oistad said officers first heard the victim was at a local hospital with a gunshot wound at about 12:15 p.m. Monday.

He told investigators the suspects had approached him at a trailer park off Brayton Drive, between O'Malley and Abbott roads, and offered to sell him methamphetamine, Oistad said.

"The victim stated he told the seller he wanted to see the drugs first," Oistad wrote. "As one of the suspects was showing him the drugs, the other began to wrestle the victim in an attempt to rob the victim of his wallet. While they were wrestling, one of the suspects shot the victim in the leg and then both suspects ran off on foot."

Police visited the location mentioned by the victim, Oistad wrote in an email, but "no evidence was found to support that was where the shooting had actually taken place."

No descriptions of the suspects were available Tuesday, Oistad said. The shooting remains under investigation.
