Juneau police say man drunkenly crashed a van into a shed

Juneau police arrested a man Friday night after they say he drunkenly crashed a van into a shed and ran from the scene.

Police received multiple 911 calls about the crash at 10:21 p.m. Friday, said a statement from the Juneau Police Department.

Witnesses said the driver crawled out of the blue Dodge Caravan and ran. He climbed underneath a trailer at a nearby home, according to the statement.

Police arrived to the area of Mendenhall Loop Road and Grant Street and arrested the driver, 50-year-old Lance Cesar, for driving while intoxicated and for failing to provide immediate notice of a crash, both misdemeanors.

Cesar's blood alcohol level was 0.227 percent, nearly three times the legal limit, the statement said.

According to police, Cesar's van first hit an attached shed and then pushed in a wall to the main home. There was significant damage to the home and no immediate report of injuries, though one resident later went to the hospital for a medical evaluation.
