Armed man robs pizzeria in South Anchorage

A South Anchorage pizza parlor was robbed at gunpoint late Saturday by a masked suspect who was captured on the store's surveillance cameras.

Uncle Joe's Pizzeria posted images on its Facebook page Sunday of a robber wearing a black sweatshirt and a skull mask.

Dispatchers received a report of the robbery just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday at the pizzeria on Jewel Lake Road just south of Raspberry Road, police spokeswoman Renee Oistad said in a statement.

"According to employees, a male wearing dark clothing and a mask entered the restaurant through an open back door," Oistad wrote. "The suspect pointed a handgun at an employee and demanded money from the till. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect ripped the business phone line out of the wall and took the employee's cellphone before fleeing from the scene."

Police recovered the cellphone nearby, but a search involving a K-9 unit didn't turn up any sign of the suspect.

Oistad said no shots were fired and nobody was injured. No arrests have been made.

Investigators ask anyone with information on the robbery to call police, who can be reached at 907-786-8900. Tips on crimes can also be submitted to Anchorage Crime Stoppers at 907-561-STOP, or through its website.
