Anchorage grocery store shooting victim remains hospitalized with critical injuries

Anchorage police identified the victim of a Friday shooting at the Aurora Village Carrs Safeway store as 31-year-old Brandon A. Smith.

Smith remains hospitalized with critical injuries, police said in a Monday statement.

"No arrests have been made in regards to this shooting and the investigation continues," the statement says.

A 911 call reporting the shooting near Minnesota Drive and Northern Lights Boulevard came in at about 4:20 a.m., Anchorage Police Lt. John McKinnon previously told Alaska Dispatch News.

Police arrived to find a sedan idling in the store's parking lot and Smith sitting in the front passenger seat with a gunshot wound to the neck, McKinnon said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the police department at 907-786-8900, or to submit anonymous tips through Anchorage Crime Stoppers.
