Car found ablaze after report of gunfire in Anchorage

A stolen vehicle burned on a street in the neighborhood of Fairview Monday afternoon following the report of shots fired in the area, according to a police spokesperson.

The Anchorage Police Department received a call at 3:12 p.m. Monday regarding gunfire and a vehicle that'd been set ablaze, said spokesperson Renee Oistad.

"Witnesses have stated there were at least two vehicles involved and shots were fired," Oistad said.

The incident happened in the area of 10th Avenue and Nelchina Street, she said.

She said police were initially told someone was inside the burning vehicle but that turned out not to be the case.

"The vehicle that was burned had been reported as stolen," Oistad said. "We're in the process of contacting the owner."

No arrests have been made in the incident, the details of which are still being investigated. Officers remained on scene as of 4:30 p.m.

Officers are unsure if occupants of both involved vehicles fired weapons, or how many people were involved, Oistad said. There are no reported victims, she said.
