Police name officers involved in fatal East Anchorage shooting

The Anchorage Police Department has identified three officers who shot and killed a man after he pointed a gun at them in the East Anchorage Fred Meyer parking lot Wednesday.

Officers Seth McMillan, Charles Robertson and Theron Peplow were involved in the shooting, APD said in a release on Sunday. It is the department's policy not to release the names of officers involved in shootings for 72 hours.

Police were trying to arrest Thomas Barclay Wednesday evening because he was wanted on warrants for charges of felony assault, misconduct involving a weapon and driving with a revoked license, police said after the incident.

Officers had pinned-in his car with their vehicles and fired a "less-lethal" round into the back window. At that point, police said, Barclay raised his weapon and three officers fired. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

McMillan has been with APD since November 2003; Robertson since August 1998; and Peplow since January 2014. The officers were placed on mandatory administrative leave. The incident will be reviewed by the office of special prosecution, APD said.
