Police ID officer who fatally shot man at Penland Mobile Home Park

Update, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday: Police have identified the officer involved in Saturday's shooting as Randy Morales. He has been with the Anchorage Police Department since May 2015, according to a statement Tuesday.

Original story:

A man who was shot and killed by a police officer Saturday evening in East Anchorage was identified by police on Monday as 20-year-old Zander M. Clark.

Clark stabbed a woman and then, after a chase, charged at an officer with a knife before he was fatally shot at Penland Mobile Home Park, the Anchorage Police Department said.

On Saturday, just before 6:30 p.m., officers were called to Home Depot near Northway Mall in East Anchorage after a report of a domestic-violence-related stabbing.

Clark had been walking with a woman in the Home Depot parking lot when they "got into some type of verbal altercation," police said. Clark pulled out a knife and stabbed her. She ran into the store "with a non-life-threatening injury."

Clark slashed two car tires in the parking lot and then fled, police said. He was seen outside of the nearby Burger King and ran toward Penland Mobile Home Park.

An officer ran after him. Once inside the trailer park, Clark "turned around, with knife in hand, and ran straight towards the officer," police said. "The officer fired; (Clark) was declared deceased at the scene."

Police on Monday said no further details on the incident would be immediately available.
