Driver shot in Willow after ‘road rage’ incident, troopers say

A Wasilla man was shot and suffered potentially life-threatening injuries early Tuesday in what troopers are calling a "road rage" encounter.

Troopers say the trouble began when 25-year-old driver Trent Wohlers and another driver, whom troopers have not identified, were headed northbound on the Parks Highway. At some point, Wohlers followed the other driver to the Sunshine Community Health Center in Willow, according to a trooper dispatch.

The other driver, a woman, met her boyfriend at the clinic.

"A physical altercation ensued which resulted in Wohlers getting shot," troopers wrote.

It's unclear who fired the shot. Wohlers was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, and authorities have notified his next of kin, troopers said.

The case is under investigation. As of this morning, no arrests had been made.

An employee at the clinic said the shooting occurred outside the building and did not involve clinic employees.

Troopers did not immediately respond to questions about the case.
