Police investigate shooting in Anchorage’s Centennial Park

Anchorage police are investigating a shooting that happened Saturday afternoon in the area of Centennial Park, after receiving a report from a shooting victim from inside the Fred Meyer store on DeBarr Road.

Around 4 p.m. Saturday, police dispatch received a report of shots fired at Starview Drive and Boundary Avenue, an intersection where a group of men and a woman had met up, according to a statement from police.

There was "an altercation" at some point, police said, and a man was shot. The victim and the woman got in a vehicle and left, and the rest of the men got into another vehicle and left, police said.

“About 30 minutes later, the victim called 911 from inside the Fred Meyer to report he had been shot once in the upper body,” the statement said.

The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. There, additional upper body gunshot wounds — also not life-threatening — were discovered, the statement said.

Police did not identify any people involved and said the shooting is believed to be isolated, not random. There is no suspect description or suspect vehicle description to release at this time, police said.

Police are asking people with information about what happened to call 311.
