Police: One man dead, another injured in shooting

A man is dead and another is injured after a shooting Monday afternoon off Dowling Road between C St and the Old Seward Highway, Anchorage police said in a written statement.

At 4 p.m., officers got a report of a shooting on the 6000-block of Austin Street, near Old Seward Highway and East Dowling Road, police said.

"Upon arrival officers located two adult males with gunshot wounds, one of whom was deceased," police said. "The other male has been transported to the hospital; the severity of his wounds is not known at this time."

Police said that the "dynamics of the shooting are still under investigation," but officers believe that everyone involved has been contacted.

Southbound Austin Street at Dowling Road was closed Monday afternoon, as officers were on scene, police said.

Speaking from the scene on Monday evening, spokesperson Renee Oistad said police would not immediately be releasing further information.
