Troopers seek stolen Chevy pickup that eluded both Seward and Anchorage police

Alaska State Troopers are asking the public's help in finding a Chevrolet pickup that eluded both Seward and Anchorage police on Saturday.

At 7 a.m. Saturday, police in the Southcentral Alaska community of Seward tried to stop a Chevrolet pickup that was speeding near Seward Highway and Nash Road. The driver didn't stop, and police didn't pursue it, troopers said.

The Seward Police Department learned soon afterward that the pickup had been reported stolen from 11635 Seward Highway, near the turnoff to Exit Glacier.

The green 2001 Chevy pickup has an Alaska license plate of K9DOC, according to troopers.

The pickup headed north on the Seward Highway, and the Anchorage Police Department got a call from another driver saying people inside the Chevy had "brandished a handgun," troopers said.

Police spotted the truck between Girdwood and Anchorage. The driver didn't stop, and officers gave up the pursuit "due to dangerous conditions to the public," troopers said.

The pickup was last seen heading northbound on the Seward Highway, troopers said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call troopers at 907-262-4453.
