APD: Homicide suspect arrested after early-morning standoff

A man wanted in connection with a June homicide in Anchorage was arrested early Monday after a brief pursuit and standoff, police said.

Jason Premo was involved in the death of Geoffrey Sorden, 48, who was shot and killed in late June in an apartment near Old Seward Highway and Dowling Road, according to the Anchorage Police Department.

Police later said Premo and Sorden entered the home and got into a fight with the homeowner. Sorden shot the homeowner in the lower body. The homeowner shot back and struck Sorden, who died at the scene. Premo fled on foot.

He was at large on a felony manslaughter warrant until Monday morning, when patrol officers tried to pull over a "suspicious vehicle," according to a police update. The driver fled and eluded police but crashed the vehicle into a pole near 36th Avenue and Patterson Street and fled on foot.

The driver, identified as Premo, was found hiding in a shed after a police perimeter was set up and a police dog tracking was conducted, police said. Premo refused to come out but surrendered after a "short period of communication" and was arrested without further incident.
