PALMER — Wasilla officers responding to a domestic violence situation early Thursday heard screaming inside the home and encountered a man with two knives, who they shot and killed, police say.
The Wasilla Police Department on Monday released more information about the incident, including the names of the three officers involved.
They also identified the man killed that morning: 30-year-old Adrian Herron of Wasilla.
Police say Herron stabbed his wife while their children, who were unharmed, were inside the home. She had called 911, saying he was threatening to kill everyone in the house.
Officers forced entry into the home and were "confronted with an armed suspect assaulting a family member with two knives," according to a police update Monday.
Herron failed to comply with officers' commands and was shot and died as a result of his injuries, police said. Emergency first aid was rendered to the suspect and victim until EMS could arrive.
The woman's life was saved, police said.
Police on Monday did not release the location of the incident.
The officers involved in the shooting were Sgt. Don Ridge, 13 years with the police department; and officers Adam LaPointe and Sawyer Skiba, each with two years with the department.
Alaska State Troopers are investigating the incident.
