Troopers: Inmate kicks out transport van window and tries to flee in Juneau

A 25-year-old prisoner being driven from court in Juneau kicked out a transport van window and fled while still in chains and his inmate uniform, Alaska State Troopers said Wednesday.

Around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, the inmate, identified by the Alaska Department of Corrections troopers as William Moy, was being taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center from the Juneau courthouse in a trooper prison transport van along with other inmates. Moy was being held on charges of second-degree burglary and theft, resisting arrest and first-degree criminal trespass, among other charges.

Just before reaching Anka Street, Moy "kicked out the side security window screen and door window." He slipped out the window and fled on foot, troopers said.

Moy was wearing an inmate uniform and belly chains as troopers, the Juneau Police Department and Alaska State Park Rangers established a perimeter in the area and began to search for him, troopers said.

About 20 minutes later, troopers said, Moy was found "hiding in an abandoned car on Jenkins Drive." He was taken back to Lemon Creek without incident, troopers said.

Moy caused $3,000 in damage to the transport van and was being charged with escape and criminal mischief, according to troopers.
