Updated: 37-year-old man shot to death in Anchorage apartment

The Anchorage Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting of a man in a Sand Lake area apartment early Saturday morning.

Around 2:30 a.m., police were called to the 3500 block of West 88th Ave. for a disturbance involving loud noises, arguing and a report of a gunshot, police spokesman MJ Thim said.

When officers arrived, they found Kevin Napier, 37, deceased in a third-floor apartment, Thim said. He had been shot in the upper body.

Police were still investigating whether Napier lived at the apartment, Thim said. Additional details about the incident, including whether other people were inside the residence, were under investigation, Thim said.

Police had questioned several people, and were looking for others who may have information about the incident.

Thim asked anyone with information to call dispatch at 911, or, to remain anonymous, Anchorage Crime Stoppers at 907-561-STOP or online.

The fatal shooting marks the 14th homicide in Anchorage this year.
