A 63-year-old man was found dead after a single-vehicle crash on the Parks Highway in Houston early Tuesday, a day after four people died on the same highway about a hundred miles to the north.

Houston resident Charles Roney was southbound in a 2001 Jeep Cherokee when it left the road for unknown reasons at Mile 52.5, troopers said in an update posted Tuesday. A witness called 911 just before 5 a.m. Tuesday.

The Cherokee collided with several mailboxes before coming to rest against trees, troopers said.

Roney was not wearing a seat belt, troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said. "It looks like the vehicle just went straight off the road and into trees."

Medics responded and pronounced Roney deceased, troopers said.

An investigation into the cause continues, Peters said.
