Police: Shoplifter pulled knife on employee at Anchorage Walmart

A 21-year-old man was charged with robbery and assault after he shoplifted at an East Anchorage Walmart, pulled a pocketknife on an employee then ran out of the store, police said.

Joshua Pressley was arrested Sunday night in a mobile home park off Muldoon Road, police said.

Police were called to the Walmart on DeBarr Road around 10:30 p.m., and an employee reported that a man was seen shoplifting then pulled a blue-handled pocketknife on an employee, police wrote in an online report.

"The victim backed away and (the suspect) took off running," police said.  "The victim told police he believed he was going to be stabbed."

A description was broadcast and Pressley was arrested, police said. Police found a blue-handled knife in a pocket, they wrote.

"During the arresting officer's contact with Pressley, he observed Pressley exhibiting behaviors consistent with someone who is high on meth," police wrote. A search of his backpack found stolen baseball cards, meth and drug paraphernalia, police wrote. He was charged with robbery, assault and theft.
