Kenai father charged with murder of infant daughter

A Kenai man is charged with killing his infant daughter, authorities said Friday.

On Oct. 19, an injured 4-month-old girl was brought to the emergency room of Central Peninsula Hospital, the Kenai Police Department said in a Friday statement. She was flown to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, where four days later she was declared brain-dead and taken off life support.

An autopsy revealed injuries that were consistent with abusive head trauma, or "shaken baby syndrome," police said.

During an investigation into the death, police reviewed footage from an in-home surveillance system. The Anchorage Police Department assisted with the investigation.

The investigation led police to arrest the girl's father, 34-year-old Franklin Schrader of Kenai. He faces charges of first- and second-degree murder and second-degree assault.

Schrader was arraigned Friday morning at the Kenai courthouse, court records show.

Further details were not immediately available.
