The 59-year-old man found dead Wednesday in the Black Angus Inn was the victim of a fatal assault, police say.

Police initially responded to a report of a dead man inside the motel at 15th Avenue and Gambell Street. They found James Page Jr. on the second floor, Anchorage Police Department spokesman MJ Thim said Friday.

New information prompted detectives to open a death investigation and take a closer look at the scene, police said Thursday. Then the state medical examiner found additional evidence, Thim said.

Police have no suspect information, he said. They're asking anyone with information about where Page was before his death, or what he was doing at the motel, to come forward.
