‘Suspicious' death in Midtown Anchorage apartment was homicide, police say

A man found dead in a Midtown Anchorage apartment early Tuesday was killed, Anchorage police said in a Friday alert.

Steven John, 36, had been dead for days when officers found him in an apartment on the 6000 block of West 34th Avenue just after 4 a.m., police said. The death was initially called “suspicious.”

John died from "trauma to the body,” according to the State Medical Examiner Office. The specific cause of death was still being investigated, police said.

Investigators have asked anyone with information about the man’s death, including surveillance video, to call dispatch at 311 or report anonymously at 907-561-STOP.
