2nd victim dead in East Anchorage shooting that police are calling domestic violence

A man was found dead and a woman died in a hospital after a shooting in an East Anchorage home early Sunday that police described as a domestic violence incident.

Brenda Smalley, 47, was identified Monday as the hospitalized victim, police said in an alert.

The name of the male victim was being withheld pending next-of-kin notification, police said.

Officers responded to a shots-fired call at a home on the 5900 block of East Sixth Avenue, off Boniface Parkway, at 2 a.m. Sunday, police said.

“Four adult family members were inside a residence when gunshots were heard,” the statement said.

One of the family members found a man and a woman inside a bathroom, both with gunshot wounds to the upper body. The man was dead. The woman was taken to a hospital.

Police described the shooting as an "isolated incident” and said detectives are continuing to investigate.
