A woman was found dead in a vehicle late Monday in an apparent homicide near downtown Anchorage.

According to an Anchorage Police Department alert, officers responded at around 11:05 p.m. to a report of shots fired in the 1100 block of Cordova Street. They found a woman shot to death.

Police on Tuesday called the shooting an isolated incident.

“Detectives believe the people involved are acquainted in some way,” APD spokesman MJ Thim said in an email. No additional details were immediately available.

Numerous police cruisers and the department’s mobile crime scene investigation vehicle could be seen early Tuesday investigating the scene in an alley between 11th and 12th avenues.

Police asked anyone with information -- including surveillance video -- to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at (907) 561-STOP.
