Sitka doctor charged with sexually abusing patient on multiple occasions

A Sitka doctor is facing sexual assault charges over accusations he repeatedly groped a patient while he was treating her.

Prosecutors accuse Richard W. McGrath, a 75-year-old osteopathic physician, of touching the woman’s breasts at least eight times starting on Nov. 13.

The indictment alleges that one of the incidents happened at the Hames Center, a fitness center in Sitka, and another in McGrath’s own home.

Prosecutors say McGrath “recklessly disregarded” the woman’s lack of consent and continued touching her until Dec. 18. In six of those incidents, the woman was unaware of what was happening, according to the indictment.

McGrath’s medical license, which was issued in 1995, was still active Tuesday and showed no disciplinary actions or accusations.

A Sitka judge issued a warrant on April 5 for McGrath’s arrest. His bail has been set at $25,000.
