Police arrested a 33-year-old man after a stabbing Monday morning at the 5th Avenue Mall in downtown Anchorage.

Gordon S. Samel III has been charged with attempted murder and first-degree assault after police say he stabbed another male in the upper body during a fight in or near the third-floor Nordstrom skybridge coffee shop, police said in an alert.

Officers responded at 10:13 a.m. The two knew each other, police said.

The victim was transported to the hospital. The extent of his injury was unknown, police said.

Samel, who fled the scene, was arrested at 11:33 a.m. and was transported to police headquarters for questioning, officials said.

He was later taken to the Anchorage Jail. The motive for the stabbing is under investigation, police said.
