A judge in Bethel sentenced a man to 25 years in prison Thursday for sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl in the Western Alaska village of Chevak in 2017, prosecutors said in a statement.
Peter Gumlickpuk, 60, and originally from New Stuyahok, was charged with aggravated second-degree sexual abuse of a minor after his wife walked in on him fondling the girl, prosecutors said.
Gumlickpuk will serve 15 years’ probation after he is released and will be required to register as a sex offender, according to the statement.
Prosecutors said the girl and Gumlickpuk’s wife both spoke at his sentencing hearing about the harm his crime had done to them. Gumlickpuk apologized, they said. His defense attorney claimed he has taken steps to reform himself.
