Anchorage police say they have charged a 12-year-old boy suspected in the Sunday shooting that left one man dead and another juvenile injured in the woods near the Chester Creek Trail.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, was being held at McLaughlin Youth Center, police said in an alert Wednesday.

Police did not immediately specify the charges that they said were forwarded to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Police said they also located a person of interest in the investigation, 45-year-old LaShawna Nettles, who was questioned and released.

Police on Wednesday did not provide any specifics about the suspect or his relationship with the victims or Nettles.

Police said the shooting started with an “altercation” among juveniles near Sullivan Arena and ended in the death of an 18-year-old man near the Chester Creek Trail. A juvenile was severely wounded, according to police.
