ORIGINAL STORY:

A teenage male was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Tuesday night after he was shot in a fight at an East Anchorage elementary school basketball court, police say.

Dispatchers received reports of a shooting around 6:57 p.m. Tuesday, police said in an alert. Police believe a fight broke out among a group of juveniles at the Williwaw Elementary School basketball court before the shooting happened.

“A male pulled out a gun, fired several rounds, and struck a male teenager at least once,” police said. “Everyone involved ran from the scene.”

A witness in the 4400 block of San Ernesto Avenue, about a block from the school, called police after the victim collapsed nearby.

No arrests have been made and no suspect information is available, according to police, who said that the Williwaw Elementary playground “will be shut down while the scene is processed.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police dispatch at 311 (option 1).
