Eagle River man tries to run cars off road, shoots at one with flare gun, troopers say

An Eagle River man is facing multiple charges after an apparent road rage incident in which, Alaska State Troopers say, he tried to run several cars off the road and shot at another driver with a flare gun.

Troopers responded at 12:42 a.m. Thursday to reports of a violent driver near Mile 30 of the Glenn Highway, according to a report posted online.

Investigators believe Joshua Haggerty, 36, was driving northbound from Eagle River when he tried to run several other vehicles off the roadway and fired a flare gun at another driver, striking their vehicle, troopers said.

It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the road rage.

Haggerty was arrested on Hyer Road near the Parks Highway on three counts of third-degree assault. He is being held at the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility.

Online court records show Haggerty has multiple prior convictions for DUI.
