A man was charged after a shooting in Mountain View early Thursday that sent another man to a hospital, the Anchorage Police Department said.

Richard S. R. Goughnour, 35, was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree misconduct involving a weapon, and reckless endangerment, police said in an online alert. He was taken to jail in Anchorage.

The victim was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, but police said he is expected to survive.

Officers responding at around 1:20 a.m. to a report of shots fired on the 4500 block of McPhee Avenue found a man shot in the upper body. The suspect had fled.

“Initial indications are that Goughnour and the victim got into some type of verbal altercation at which time Goughnour fired his weapon,” police said. "It does not appear the two knew one another beforehand."

The nature of the argument is still under investigation, police said. In an earlier update, police said the shooter was in a vehicle and the victim was on foot.

Police were not looking additional people connected with the shooting.
