Update, 5:25 p.m. Friday: A 61-year-old man found dead in an East Anchorage home early Thursday morning shot at a woman before turning the gun on himself, according to police.

The Anchorage Police Department identified Guy Walk as the deceased suspect in a public alert Friday evening.

According to police, Walk “died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” and the woman police say he shot “is expected to survive her injuries.”

Original story:

Officers found a man dead and a woman wounded when they entered an East Anchorage residence after reports of a domestic disturbance there early Thursday, police said.

The woman was transported to a hospital in unknown condition with a gunshot wound to the lower body, the Anchorage Police Department said. The man had a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Officers had responded before 3 a.m. to the 1800 block of Atkinson Drive in Nunaka Valley, where they heard arguing followed by gunfire, police said in an online alert. SWAT officers also responded and Atkinson Drive was closed for a time.

No officers were injured, according to APD.

Police have not released the man’s name pending next-of-kin notification procedures.

Detectives with the homicide unit have taken over the investigation, APD said.
