Man facing murder charge after deadly fight in Western Alaska

A Crooked Creek man has been charged with first-degree murder after troopers said he was involved in a deadly altercation Saturday.

Troopers wrote in a dispatch that 26-year-old Evan Waskey died in Crooked Creek after a fight with 30-year-old Ronald Waskey. Troopers were notified around 6:15 a.m. Saturday and investigators from Bethel and Aniak responded, according to the dispatch. Crooked Creek is a village of about 100 people in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.

Ronald Waskey is being held at the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center in Bethel, troopers wrote. The state medical examiner will conduct an autopsy on Evan Waskey, the dispatch said.

Troopers could not be immediately reached Sunday afternoon for additional details.
