Chugiak convenience store robbed at gunpoint

A Chugiak convenience store was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday night.

According to Anchorage Police Department spokesperson MJ Thim, a man with a gun walked into the Vitus gas station at 19223 Old Glenn Highway around 9 p.m. and demanded money. Thim said the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police searched the area with a K9 unit until around midnight but were unable to locate a suspect, Thim said.

“Detectives are reviewing surveillance video from the area,” Thim wrote.

As of Wednesday morning, police had no other information about the suspect. Police asked anyone with information about the case to call 311 or Crime Stoppers at (907) 561-STOP.

Formerly known as Alice Mae’s, the convenience store and laundromat was purchased in February by Anchorage-based Vitus Energy. This summer, the company remodeled and rebranded the business.
