Suspect in Anchorage credit union robbery arrested in Fred Meyer

A man who law enforcement officers believe robbed a Midtown Anchorage credit union Wednesday afternoon has been taken into custody, according to police.

Just before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a reported robbery at the Alaska USA Federal Credit Union at 310 E. Northern Lights Blvd., near the Midtown Mall, according to an alert from Anchorage police. Police believe Pierce X. Cottingham, 30, “handed a note to a bank teller and then left on foot with an undisclosed amount of money prior to police arrival."

There were no injuries or visible weapons, according to police.

Police took Cottingham into custody around 7 p.m. Wednesday after someone called police dispatch saying she believed he was at the Fred Meyer on Northern Lights Boulevard, according to an update from police.
