APD: Guns found in car of high school student who planned to fight Monday

Staff at Benny Benson Secondary School found handguns and ammunition in a student’s car Monday morning after they were notified that two students were planning to fight later in the day, police wrote in an online alert.

“The students were identified and staff conducted a search,” police wrote.

Two unloaded handguns and ammunition were found in one of the student’s vehicles, according to the alert.

Benny Benson is a vocational education program for high school students, according to their website. The school uses a half-day program that allows students to catch up on credits needed to graduate.

A patrol officer and a school resource officer responded to the school just before 11:30 a.m. Both students were questioned and arrested. Charges were forwarded to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
