A Hanshew Middle School student was arrested Wednesday after an argument with another student in which he threatened a shooting, Anchorage police said.

An argument between two students “escalated,” which is when the threat was made, said Alan Brown, director of communications at Anchorage School District.

School administrators got in touch with a school resource officer after learning about the argument and threat, Brown said. The Anchorage Police Department said its School Resource Officer Unit was contacted about the incident around noon Wednesday.

Two school resource officers are shared among 10 elementary schools and two secondary schools, Brown said.

The school resource officer who was assigned to the middle school contacted the student and found that he had brass knuckles, police said in an online alert.

The student was arrested after being questioned and his charges were forwarded to the Department of Juvenile Justice, according to police.
