KENAI — A woman was shot and killed Tuesday in Kenai and her son was arrested and charged, the Kenai Police Department said.
Rita M. Green, 51, of Kenai, was killed by her son, Philip S. Green, 22, also of Kenai, police said Wednesday morning. He has been charged with first-degree murder.
Police didn’t specify a motive for the killing.
Police at 3 p.m. Tuesday received a report of the shooting at a home on Fourth Avenue. As police searched for a suspect, nearby Kaleidoscope Elementary School was locked down, the Peninsula Clarion reported.
Philip Green was found with assistance from an Alaska State Troopers K-9, police said.
Police asked witnesses with information on the shooting to contact them.
An autopsy for Rita Green was scheduled, and the investigation was continuing, police said.
